Yes, we understand you are tired from not sleeping at night, and that makes it much more tempting to sleep during the day. If you feel you must take a nap, only nap for 30 minutes or less and never nap after 3 o’clock in the evening. Sleeping longer than 30 minutes will interfere with sleeping at night.
It is best to keep your bedroom quiet and dark when sleeping. Never use artificial light because it can make going to sleep harder. If you find that noise is keeping you awake at night, turn on the fan to help block it out.
Another way to help with insomnia is to only get dressed and sleep in your brain. If you have your computer in your room, your mind begins to believe that you should be alert when they are. Try to keep your bedroom as a place where you sleep so your brain will associate that room as being a place of rest.
If you try the above tips and still find that you are having trouble sleeping at night, it may be wise to talk with your doctor. Many times, they will refer you to a sleep clinic to study why you are not sleeping well. To determine where your sleep problems come from, they will monitor your movements, your heart, and your brain.
